We're at my grandparents in Tacoma, Washington for a few days. We arrived here yesterday after a long car trip. Anna really doesn't like the car. Luckily, she slept for a lot of the trip, but she cried most of the time she was awake, and I had a hard time getting her to sleep. She loved the ferry because it has a children's play area. She taught all the other kids how to go headfirst down the slide. I'm surprised she can do that without hurting herself. I didn't let her when I was watching her, but when Johannes took over he did, so when I took over again I let her since she can do it pretty well. Crossing the border was a pain. Since Johannes and Anna are German, we had to park and go in and fill out forms and Johannes got fingerprinted and his photo taken and we had to pay 12 dollars. I wasn't too happy about the whole thing because it took so long and I had to wake Anna up to take her inside. We weren't allowed to stay in the car.
We got here at about 7 last night, and went to bed by 8:30. We're not completely over the jetlag yet, but almost. It's hard to get over it when Anna is awake so much at night, but she was really good last night. She only woke up once that I remember, and not for very long.
This morning, my grandmother took me shopping so she could buy birthday presents for Anna and I. Anna got a whole stack of board books, and I got DVDs- Bewitched, and the third season of Law & Order. I'm planning on buying the first season of Murphy Brown with some other birthday money that I got because I really want it. We didn't see it anywhere today.
I'm not sure what we're doing for the rest of the day. My grandpa isn't very mobile so we will probably stay here and visit with him. We're going out to dinner tonight. My grandparents really like doing that and my grandmother doesn't want to cook. We'll probably go every night we"re here, unless I convince her to let me cook.
I don't think I wrote anything about what we did in Victoria earlier in the week. On Monday, we were really tired, but Anna wouldn't sleep so we decided to get the shopping out of the way. Beth came over that afternoon and visited Anna and I. I fell asleep too early and missed dinner completely. I woke up at 3 and was wide awake, so I ate it then. Anna was wide awake too, so no one went to asleep again until about 4:30.
On Tuesday, we went to mass in the morning and everyone was excited to see Anna, and maybe us too. We went downtown to buy wedding presents after that, and then came home for lunch. Anne came over that afternoon, and then we all went out for Paula's birthday at the Keg. Anna was very cranky, so we left before dessert. I fell asleep putting her to bed and didn't wake up again until 2:30. I guess yesterday was the first day I went to bed at a reasonable time.
Lunch is ready now.
